Carspotters' Challenge #98--Sea Breeze

After yet another major winter storm walloping the northern half of the Midwest this week, I'm in the mood for something from a warmer climate.

The date is given as 1959. As for the location, that's a bit tricky. My first thought was either Florida or somewhere in California, but then I realized that the cars are on the "wrong" side of the road and the license plates have a wider aspect ratio. Australia, maybe?

Interesting. There's also an "Avis" sign near the red & white car, and those are evergreens, not palm trees.

I remember when Daytona Beach hotels looked like this. In fact, we stayed at one called "Sea Breeze" in 1967 or so. I spent more time there playing with the 3-story elevator than I did running on the beach.

A little Google-foo and it's the Sea Breeze Resort, Gold Coast, Queensland, 1959. http://www.postvintage-tas.org/Classic%20Pics.htm

My dad had a '58 VW that looked very much like the red one in the picture, only in green.
