Carspotters' Challenge #71--Boston Elevated
For this week's challenge, we bring you two large-format black and white images from a series documenting the stations and physical structure of the Washington Street Elevated in Boston. The Elevated was taken out of service and torn down in 1987. These photos appear to have been taken sometime in the 1980s.
This is Dover Street station.
The elevated line appeared prominently in the opening titles and exterior "establishing shots" of the 1980s medical drama St. Elsewhere--and continued running on TV for a year after being torn down in real life. Here's the title sequence as it appeared when the show premiered in the fall of 1982: consider it a bonus spotting challenge for when you're done with the photos above.
