Jaguar E-Type

With
apologies to Ferrari, when judging the great sports cars and grand
touring coupes of the 1960s, one letter stands out from the others.
This Car Lust is brought to you by the letter E.The
Jaguar E-Type, or XK-E as it was sometimes known in the United States,
was the word "smooth" in automotive form. Smooth, shapely,
characteristically feline contours made the E-Type one of the prettiest
cars of its generation--even Jaguar's newest sports cars ape the
E-Type's lines in an effort to re-create the magic.
The
E-Type's inline six was gloriously powerful without sacrificing its
buttery smoothness; and later in the E-Type's run, an optional V-12
supplied additional grunt while maintaining the car's overall silkiness.
Smooth,
elegant, quick, refined, and exciting in a suitably genteel way, the
Jaguar E-Type was an all-time great and an icon that transcends its era.As usual, there are great photos of the E-Type on Flickr. The lovely photo on top is courtesy of user Sherlock77, while the second is from smenzel.
